Tascent Introduces Next-Generation Mobile Biometric Platform
Unique multi-platform, multi-generation smartphone support enabled by OtterBox uniVERSE Case System
LOS GATOS, CA – April 23, 2017 – Tascent, Inc., the leader in intuitive biometrics, today announced the availability of Tascent MX, the latest in its family of mobile biometric devices. Tascent MX combines advanced iris, fingerprint, and face biometrics with the world’s leading smartphones to form an intuitive and powerful platform for a wide variety of identity registration and authentication applications.
Tascent is partnering with OtterBox, provider of the uniVERSE Case System, to support a broad range of smartphones, across multiple operating systems and form factors, including the Samsung Galaxy S series and other Android devices. With this modular approach, Tascent MX enables multi-generation device compatibility, offering flexibility as platforms evolve.
With its multimodal biometrics and mobile capabilities, Tascent MX addresses the global demand for establishing and verifying identity on-the-go in a way that is secure, scalable, accurate, and easy-to-use. Potential applications range from travel and financial services to public safety and humanitarian aid.
“Tascent MX hits a sweet spot for biometric identity: It is highly compact and easy to use, while delivering advanced multimodal biometric capabilities in a secure, scalable framework,” says Joey Pritikin, founder and co-CEO at Tascent. “This makes it an ideal fit for a wide range of emerging commercial applications, while also delivering a true next-generation capability to established end users in enterprise and government applications. Furthermore, by enabling broader, more cost-effective programs for establishing unique identity, Tascent MX can significantly benefit the 1.1 billion people in the world who lack a legal identity.1”
Tascent MX integrates the functions of traditional desktop or suitcase-based enrollment systems within a compact, hand-held device. Powered by world-class biometric sensors, which include Tascent’s advanced iris imaging system and Integrated Biometrics’ FAP 45 certified Sherlock fingerprint sensor, Tascent MX meets international standards for biometric imaging and product performance. With this advanced technology suite, Tascent MX achieves dual-eye iris capture and dual-print or rolled fingerprint capture, even in bright sunlight.
Tascent MX’s open architecture approach enables partners to develop custom applications across leading smartphone operating systems with the Tascent Mobile SDK.
“Because it combines multi-platform, multi-generation support of leading consumer mobile devices with an open architecture SDK, Tascent MX is enabling us to address a wide variety of customers and applications in public safety, civil ID, travel services, and beyond,” says Jin Phang Low, Executive Vice President/General Manager of ST Electronics (Info-Software Systems) Pte Ltd. “Easy to use and easy to develop on, it allows us to put our customer’s needs first and rapidly deliver outstanding biometric identity solutions.”
Core to Tascent MX is the use of OtterBox’s uniVERSE Case System, which combines trusted protection with a modular system that transforms smartphones into mobile powerhouses by securely attaching accessories on the case. Accessories can easily be detached or swapped out using a discrete rail system, leaving the smartphone slim, protected, and fully functional.
“At OtterBox we pride ourselves on enabling customers to access compelling new mobile applications. We’re proud to partner with Tascent to offer a mobile biometric solution that can help improve convenience and efficiency while bolstering safety and security,” said Jim Myers, vice president of the commercial division for OtterBox. “Our uniVERSE Case System provides sleek, versatile and rugged housing for Tascent MX, enabling it to work with the leading contemporary mobile phones. We are excited about the potential for devices like Tascent MX to bring the power of verifiable identity to a new class of mobile identity applications, especially ones like humanitarian aid that effect positive, lasting change.”
Tascent MX will be shown at the ID4Africa Annual Meeting in Abuja, Nigeria on April 24-26, and at the Connect:ID Exhibition in Washington, DC on May 1-2, with production shipments planned for Summer 2018.
