Tascent InSight One Wins Red Dot Award for Outstanding Product Design

Tascent’s biometric recognition system beats out more than 5,500 applicants to win prestigious internationally recognized quality seal.

LOS GATOS, CA – April  3, 2017 – Tascent InSight® One has achieved the globally recognized “Red Dot” award for high quality design. In the award’s sixty-third year, InSight One was selected from thousands of applicants and reviewed by an expert panel of some 40 recognized design experts from around the world who deemed Tascent, Inc. and its design partner, Whipsaw, Inc., had created an outstanding design for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017 category.

InSight One represents a new class of iris and face recognition system designed for high throughput enrollment, identification, and authentication. The product features a groundbreaking combination of human-centric design and usability, compact size, and outstanding biometric performance. The stunning, sleek, and eye-catching design of InSight One complements the forward-thinking architecture of modern airports.

With a simple, intuitive user interface, InSight One’s fully automated process makes biometric capture easy for first time users, delivering images that meet or exceed demanding ISO / ICAO standards for format and quality. It captures dual iris and face images in about 2 seconds, working at a distance of 0.5 to 1.0m (20 to 40 inches) and easily accommodating users across a wide range of heights. This user-friendly format is shifting how biometrics are perceived throughout airports and government facilities worldwide. InSight One was developed by  Tascent, Inc., a biometrics and identity innovation company.

Joey Pritikin, VP of Sales and Marketing: “We knew that in order for InSight One to be a success, a human-centric approach to design had to be at the core of our development process. Often used in travel and other high stress situations, the visual identity of the product had to put people at ease, and create an efficient and stress-free experience for users and operators alike. We’re honored that our approach has been rewarded by this illustrious organization.”

Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of the Red Dot Award: “The Red Dot winners are pursuing the right design strategy. They have recognised that good design and economic success go hand in hand. The award by the critical Red Dot jury documents their high design quality and is indicative of their successful design policy.”

The significance of the international design competition, Red Dot Award: Product Design, with its headquarter in Essen, Germany is well established internationally. It was more than 60 years ago that a jury convened for the first time to assess the best designs of the day. Since then, an expert team has been awarding the seal of quality for good design and innovation to the outstanding designs of the year.

Manufacturers and designers around the globe were also invited to enter their products in the 2017 competition. The jury of around 40 independent designers, design professors and specialist journalists including the likes of Datuk’ Professor Jimmy Choo, Dr. Thomas Lockwood and Alexander Neumeister tested, discussed and assessed each individual product, awarding the Honourable Mention for a well-conceived detail solution, the Red Dot for high design quality and the Red Dot: Best of the Best for groundbreaking design. In total, the competition received more than 5,500 entries from 54 countries this year.

The Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017 will culminate in Essen on 3 July 2017. This is when the Red Dot: Best of the Best laureates receive their trophies during the Red Dot Gala award ceremony. At the subsequent Designers’ Night after-show party, the award winners will celebrate in the midst of all the prize-winning products in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen, and the Red Dot winners will receive their well-earned certificates. For five weeks, the special exhibition “Design on Stage” will present the awarded products of the year as part of the world’s largest exhibition of contemporary design.
